Greenhouse Monitoring
To ensure the optimum conditions for plant growth, monitoring the conditions inside the greenhouse and monitoring the health of the plants is of paramount importance. Picking up negative trends in the data early allows you to take action to rectify any emerging problems which can mitigate the loss of crops.
In this task you will design a spreadsheet to allow you to track the conditions inside the greenhouse, and the health of some of the plants. Your group will be responsible for collecting data at agreed intervals of time using a range of tools such as Pocketlab Air, rulers and soil probes, and then entering this data in your spreadsheet to track conditions over time. Your spreadsheet should use appropriate graphs to show trends over time and also use conditional formattting to alert you to when conditions inside the greenhouse exceed the maximum and minimum threshold values. |
Your spreadsheet should consist of the following parts.
- A sheet (page tab) to identify the data meausures you plan to collect and the minimum/maximum threshold values. These values are the ones that if they are exceeded would threaten the safety of the plants. The purpose of this is to create a table of values that can be referenced in the conditional formating of other sheets. For example what temperatures would be too low for the plants, and too high for them.
- A sheet (page tab) to track the conditions inside the greenhouse, it should contain
- sections for you to be able to add your data
- graphs to show the changes in the data over time
- conditional formatting to immediately identify when an entered data value exceeds the threshold values
- a table of summary data to show key performance measures such as the minimum, maximum and average values
- A sheet (page tab) to track the growth and health of your plants (you may want one sheet per plant) it should contain
- sections for you to be able to add your data
- graphs to show the changes in the data over time
- conditional formatting to immediately identify when an entered data value exceeds the threshold values
- a table of summary data to show key performance measures such as the minimum, maximum and average values
In order to design your spreadsheet you will need to conduct research into what data measures are going to be important to take, how you can measure or monitor them, and at what level, high or low, they become dangerous
