There are 8 blocks of land that make up this housing development. In order to make appropriate decisions for each of the areas of housing, electricity, water and food, you need to ensure that you have left enough room for each. To help facilitate this some initial planning for how you will use the space you have is an important first step. This will start on paper, but can also be done digitally. the STL files below are copies of the blocks that you can bring into tinkercad.

This file is a version of the blocks that has been generated in Minecraft, each block is equal to 1m and therefore you can build using the real sizes.

The development of a block of land, especially one geared towards sustainability, is a complex process. As you are developing one part of the block at a time, there is a danger that you might make your house too big and have no room for anything else on the block. You may also have that house blocking the sun from reaching the rest of the yard, which makes growing food difficult. To help develop a clear plan for the block, you will want a plan similar to the one below.
|
One of the first steps in the process is getting a firm idea of the quantity of land. The blocks of land are in the scale of exactly 1:125. By breaking up the block into the minimum number of triangles, by connecting corners of the block the area of the block can be determined using Heron's formula. This formula uses the lengths of each side of a triangle to determine the area, the spreadsheet for the unit will help you do this.
