What is STEMIE?
STEMIE (STEM Innovation Experience) is an outreach program facilitated by UniSA. It is a competitive program, with schools from across the state competing first regionally, and then, if successful, on a state level. The competition is organised around a central theme for the year with a science, technology, engineering and maths task (4 tasks) tied to the theme. A team of up to six students complete their work at school and presented it at the regional showcase. The top achieving school from the regional showcase events (plus wild cards) then compete at the state final where they work against the clock on a series of unseen STEM challenges.
At PASS, STEMIE is delivered as a stage 1 Scientific Studies unit at year 11. In semester 1 students complete the tasks for the current year and from that class six are selected to compete at the regional showcase. In order to meet the goals for the checkpoint tasks these students will need to spend sometime outside of class to ensure that their submissions are prepared.
In semester 2 the focus is still on STEMIE, but not on the tasks of the current year, they will instead work towards completing the tasks for a earlier year. The choice around which year will be done by the teacher of the class.

Timeline
In order to complete all of the tasks complete in the set time you will need to make sure you are adhering to the following timelines. The coloured boxes show how long (in weeks) each task should take, and the writing in each box outlines what task you should be doing that week to stay on track. Straying too far from this timeline will leave you in danger of not finishing the course in time.
